Corporates and their Employees do more during Volunteer Week Corporate South Africa is increasingly realising the benefits of contributing to social development through corporate social investment. This is evident from the steadily increasing number of companies showing interest in supporting various ways of corporate involvement. CAF Southern Africa has spearheaded this campaign for the past three years. Mamo Mohapi, coordinator of the programme comments, ‘Employee community involvement, and employee volunteering in particular, has grown from being about the company and its employees, to being about doing what we can as a country to deal with the many challenges that we face in our everyday lives.’ Employee Volunteer Week is one such platform. This special week provides corporate South Africa with an opportunity to make a contribution to improving the lives of the marginalised in our society. Over the years, the campaign has seen an increasing number of companies supporting and encouraging their employees to participate in Volunteer Week. Now in its fourth year, the campaign has shifted from employees getting “down and dirty”, to providing much needed skills and expertise to strengthen non profit organisations. During the week, which runs from 10-16 March 2008, we hope to see productive and sustainable partnerships built between corporates and the NPO sector. “There has been phenomenal enthusiasm from both the companies and non profit organisations,’ says CAF Southern Africa director Colleen du Toit. ‘We are very pleased about the number of companies that have shown an interest in taking part in this years’ campaign – the number and variety of projects that employees will be working on during the week shows their real dedication to making a difference in the lives of marginalised and needy South Africans’. For more information about the campaign please contact Mamo Mohapi on 011 726 1148 or info@volunteerweek.org.za or you can explore this website to find out how you can organise an activity for your team.
